Our Story
The Farm
Beneath the towering presence of Stellenbosch’s famous Simonsberg and Jonkershoek mountains, you will find the rolling vineyards of Vrede Wine Farm. Vrede is situated against the eastern slopes of the Bottelary ward. This is widely regarded as South Africa’s premier wine region and the farm is indeed blessed with excellent wine growing conditions. A mild Mediterranean climate prevails and during summer, generous sunshine is tempered by cool breezes blowing in from the nearby oceans. The breezes create ideal, slow ripening conditions, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal character and an intense concentration of flavours.
The name Vrede means Peace or Tranquillity.
The History
Vrede Farm was originally a Dairy Farm until 1992, when Cape businessman, Kleintjie Bellingan, with the help of some leading Viticulturists, transformed the farm into a well-established wine farm. Vrede produces new world wines with complex characters, that are easy drinking yet laced with depth and full-bodied flavours. In 2011 a Group of Friends (Two Bean Counters and Two Smouse “Peddlers” ) started Vin de Classique International, with the passion to market the amazing wines from Vrede and neighbouring Farms. Today Friends from all over the World is enjoying our Wines.
