The History of Vrede Wine Farm
Beneath the towering presence of Stellenbosch’s famous Simonsberg and Jonkershoek mountains, you’ll find the rolling vineyards of Vrede Wine Farm. Vrede is situated against the eastern slopes of the Bottelary ward. This is widely regarded as South Africa’s premier wine region and the farm is indeed blessed with excellent wine growing conditions. A mild Mediterranean climate prevails and during summer, generous sunshine is tempered by cool breezes blowing in from the nearby ocean. The breezes create ideal, slow ripening conditions, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal character and an intense concentration of flavours.
The name Vrede means Peace or Tranquility.
From the early nineties
An exciting new chapter in the farm’s history started in 1992, when Cape businessman, Kleintjie Bellingan transformed the dairy farm into a well establish wine farm. Vrede produces new world wines with complex characters, wine that are easy drinking yet laced with depth and full-bodied flavours. The new range Charmé currently consist of Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Pinot Noir; Sparkling Brut and Sparkling Rosé.
